Ceremonial clay vessels of the Ewe

In the Wodun religion of the Ewe in south-eastern Ghana and in Benin, clay vessels embody the ritual bond between people and gods, a relationship of mutual giving and taking.
Horst Antes has devoted himself to non-European and non-academic art for many decades. The clay vessels are part of his extensive collections.

Boschetto

The Boschetto is located on the slope above the house. Horst Antes’ aim here is to find a balance between the surrounding nature and his work.

The Chiesa di San Giorgio alle Spadaio is a small, decommissioned chapel from the 12th century in the municipality of Barberino Tavarnelle. It lies by the roadside and is not normally accessible. It currently houses a major work by Horst Antes. It is possible to visit the chapel from Sicellino.

Poetry reading in the Boschetto

The language of poetry joins the trees, plants, and sculptures of the Boschetto, a small, ascending wood. International authors from the region and those connected to Sicellino speak as you walk through the Boschetto.

Film: Giovanni Cioni

Giovanni Cioni’s films are inspired by the lives of their protagonists and are made in collaboration with them. It is often the weak, the ostracized, the marginalized who are given voice in his films and generate liberating, poetic visual worlds.

Per Ulisse was created in a social center in Florence. Cioni accompanies former drug addicts, prison inmates, homeless people, and psychiatric patients. The loneliness of their fates swells into a flood of extraordinary life stories. The jury of the 54th Festival dei Popoli selected Per Ulisse as the best feature film because “it transforms indelible moments of storytelling and play into eccentric cinema, giving us back the deep sense of listening, of being open and responding with our own bodies to the experiences, fragility, madness, joy and inherent beauty of other people.”
